SLEEPY EYES NELSON

Sleepy Eyes Nelson lives in the countryside in the south west of Scotland. He lives in the hills and enjoys tending his vegetable patch and playing guitar. Sometimes he likes to visit the nearest town and play guitar for the locals in exchange for drink. He plays cards, for money and drink if possible, and also dominos.

You can’t beat the dominos”, he says.

Sleepy Eyes Nelson has self-recorded and released 4 albums of 1930s Dustbowl Hellfire. His as-yet-untitled 5th and debut release for Commercially Inviable (COMIN005) will be unleashed later this year. In the meantime, we’re planning a digital-only EP to tide you all over.

JAMES SUMMERFIELD

James Summerfield often sounds like he could be holed up in some moss hung Appalachian cabin, sitting on the porch, banjo on his lap and bottle of hooch at his side, swapping Southern gothic songs of misery and murder with preacher men and moonshiners.

In 2000, at the tender age of 17 and as a member of Buick 6 (later The Toques) he released the quite wonderful “Drunk on My Porch” earning glowing reviews and 2 John Peel Sessions. In September 2003 James decided to unhitch the wagon and go solo and self-produced and almost totally self-played “Hailah, Hailah”, his debut album. The next LP, “Paint The Road” followed in 2006 to excellent reviews.

August 2008 sees the release of his 3rd LP, “Count To 10 And Start Again” on Commerically Inviable.

FRIENDS OF THE STARS

Friends of the Stars have never done things the easy way. Nor have they often gone the right way; at least, not before a couple of ambitious, ill-conceived or simply stubborn blind alleys have been ventured down first. That’s why the appearance of “Lighting & Electrical“ (COMIN003), their first commercially available album, is such a minor miracle.

It’s a long story..

But the album’s ten tracks tell that story better than any words on any page can. This is the first album the band have released but each song has been filtered through seven years of literally hundreds of songs, countless gigs, different line-ups, different priorities, different goals.

The trio that comprises the band - Craig Hamilton, Anna Russell and Cam Docherty - share out the singing and songwriting duties. But, despite the different voices, there’s a unity of sound and a unity of purpose.
