Latest Release - “Todd” by Gurdan Thomas

Have your pennies at the ready! The next release on Commercially Inviable hits the shops this coming Monday.

Gurdan Thomas - “Todd” EP - COMIN009 - 13th September 2010

Recorded with legendary Birmingham producer Bob Lamb (The Lilac Time, UB40) the “Todd” EP consists of 3 songs from our favourite travelling folk troupe, Gurdan Thomas. This EP finds them at their multi-instrumental, break-neck best and the lead track “Todd” is a heady, crazy journey into the mind of Sweeney Todd, the fabled demon barber of Fleet Street.

There are only a super limited 100 CD copies of the EP available from Commercially Inivable, and once they go they will stay gone. To order your copy for £5 (inc P&P) visit the release page or click on the logo below.

If dots and zeros are more your thing, you’ll be able to buy from iTunes as of Monday morning.

The single is also available at the following digital retailers: 7Digital, Juno & eMusic

Additionally, and finally, you can buy the EP from our Bandcamp page. We’ve done something slightly different here in that YOU can name the price you want to pay. The minimum price is £1 for the entire EP but should you wish you can pay more. Since Bandcamp do not take a cut of  our transactions you can rest assured that all of the additional money you pay goes directly to the band. Click here or the Bandcamp logo below to visit the page.

If you’d like to help us spread the word about the “Todd” EP then please feel free to do so. You can do this by clicking on the green “Share This” logo below, or by pasting the following link into Facebook, Twitter or your email client: http://is.gd/f5qTi. Either method of sharing will bring people to this page.

The Todd EP is a taster for the band’s forthcoming LP, “The Fat Lady Sings”, which we’re releasing on 27th September. More news on that soon.

Thank you for listening and enjoy the songs!

World of Fox - Bieberized!

A few weeks ago the internet went crackers for a strange remix. A musician going by the name of Shamantis took a track by teen-sensation Justin Bieber and decided to slow it down 800 times. The result was a thing of great beauty. A bubblegum-sweet, pointlessly throwaway tune by perhaps the least credible artist on the entire planet was transformed into a 30 minute symphony of pure harmonics and gorgeous tones. Ain’t the internet marvellous?

We were curious as to what our own output would sound like given a similar treatment, so here’s the first in an occasional series of Commercially Inviable acts, for the want of a better word, ‘Bieberized’

This is World of Fox’s “Please Take Your Time”, renamed for the purposes of this exercise as “Pllleeeessse Taaaaakkkke Yoouuur Tiimmmme”

Enjoy!

Friends of the Stars - Moseley Folk Festival 2010

From Friends of the Stars

We had a great day playing at the Moseley Folk Festival last weekend. It was our 4th appearance at the festival but the first time as a full band and the friendly atmosphere and crowd inside the Bohemian Jukebox tent really made the day. We also played pretty well too, which is always a bonus.

We recorded the set, so if you missed it and want to hear how it sounded, or were there and would like to hear it again, here it is as a free download. The entire set is about 25 minutes long and the download is about 40Mb.

In truth, it isn’t the greatest quality live recording we’ve ever heard - it was taken from a mobile phone placed somewhere in the tent - so, if you’d just like a taster before you download it all, here is the 2nd track we played on the day, The People’s Express
